The spate of concealed carry legislation throughout the country in recent years has increased the demand for reliable, small, lightweight, easily concealed revolvers. Designed to be an inexpensive version of the Detective Special, the Colt's Lightweight Agent had an ejector shroud added, but sales continued to spiral downward. This later deficiency can potentially loom with great importance in a gunfight. Revolvers are more difficult to reload than magazine-fed pistols. Their capacity is almost always less than a semiautomatic pistol. For concealment purposes, they are not as flat as semiautomatic pistols. And, for those who care (such as government-sanctioned covert operators), no brass is left on the ground to tell any tales.Īdmittedly there are disadvantages to wheelguns. Revolvers can be had in very small, compact envelopes. Revolvers are less ammunition-sensitive than semiautomatics. For the novice, a revolver remains by far the best choice as there is never a chance of a round being left in the chamber after a magazine has been removed.Īnd there are usually no manual safety mechanisms that must be manipulated. Ammunition can be stored for a long, long time in a revolver's cylinder.Ī semiautomatic pistol's magazine follower spring will take a set if not periodically relieved of its ammunition load. In the incredibly rare instance that a round fails to fire, just pulling the trigger will rotate another round into the firing position. I still frequently carry a Smith & Wesson J-frame revolver in one variant or another as backup to a larger pistol, or sometimes only that with speedloaders. They still have their aficionados and lethal applications. Double-action revolvers are a long way from moribund.

It was a stark contrast to the recent theme of young drivers taking over Ind圜ar, which now has six different winners through six races this season. The older guys are still kicking the younger guys' butts." "I don't know if this is a good comparison, but Tom Brady won the Super Bowl and Phil Mickelson won the golf, so here you go. "I've run two races this year and won two races, I'd say that's pretty good," said Castroneves, who noted this might be the year for aging veterans. "It wasn't given to him, and when someone works as hard as he did, I'm glad it happened for him."Ĭastroneves, who also won the 500 in 20, was part of the winning Rolex 24 Daytona sports car team in January, taking the prestigious sports car event for the first time. This was the only Ind圜ar race on Castroneves' schedule this season. "He deserved it, he worked hard to get it, and he finally got it," said Foyt, who was celebrating the 60th anniversary of his first Indy 500 victory. Penske, now the owner of the speedway, embraced Castroneves in victory lane, while Foyt welcomed the new member to the four-time winners club. "I love Indianapolis! You guys don't understand it! The fans, you give me energy," Castroneves said. and Rick Mears, his former mentor at Team Penske, as the only four-time winners of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Mears was the last driver to join the club in 1991. His last Indy 500 win was in 2009, and Castroneves has been trying since to join A.J. Maybe Castroneves would have a shot to win, but he would also boost a team that needed some veteran leadership at one of the most challenging tracks in the world. He hired Castroneves for the Indy 500 to complement the one-car Meyer Shank Racing team. Spider-Man insisted he was not done racing, and Michael Shank agreed. And that meant we did something very special."Īfter more than two decades driving for Team Penske, winning three Indy 500 with them, Castroneves was eventually phased over to the sports car program, where he won the IMSA championship last season before Roger Penske shuttered the team and made the business decision to cut Castroneves loose. And even those who don't like me, I hope they understand that this is a very difficult place to achieve. "I've been in the sport for a long time, and I hope I have more friends than actual enemies. "It means a lot," Castroneves said of the reception. "You're a legend."Ĭastroneves became the fourth-oldest winner in Indianapolis 500 history, behind Al Unser (47, 1987), Bobby Unser (47, 1981) and Emerson Fittipaldi (46, 1993). "I was looking up and down, 'Who is the 06?'" Power told Castroneves in a victory hug. I want to see it.' That's what probably made me thank all of them because they made this place special."Īlmost every member of Team Penske rushed out to meet Castroneves, including former teammate Will Power, who saw the final scoring pylon and had no idea his longtime friend won. Every time we sign the autographs, they are like, 'I've never seen a four-time winner. For a long time these people want to see a four-time winner," Castroneves said. "I was drawn by the positive energy of everyone. He pumped his arms in the air and waved to the ecstatic crowd, his explosion of emotional energy stopped every few feet by a flood of rivals who rushed onto the track to congratulate him. At 46 and one of the oldest drivers in the field, he ran along the frontstretch of the speedway waving to the 135,000 fans in attendance. Then Spider-Man scaled the Indianapolis Motor Speedway fence for his trademark victory celebration at the largest sporting event since the start of the pandemic.Ĭastroneves wasn't done yet. Written off as too old to race full-time, too old for a fourth Indianapolis 500 win, Helio Castroneves at long last joined that exclusive club in a popular victory for the old guys. She is involved in community outreach here in Central Oregon, so that apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! I was always taught to give back to my community, this was instilled in me as a kiddo. My mom has also been super supportive and inspiring throughout my life. My husband Rick is a HUGE inspiration in my life, on a daily basis! Every day before I head off to work, he says “go save em, baby!” which is always so helpful and motivating to hear before a long day at work. From then on, I knew in my heart that I needed to be professionally connected to the animal welfare community and more specifically, dedicate my time to dogs and cats in need. After two and a half years serving on the board, I was approached by the medical director and was asked to join the medical team as a veterinary assistant. Several years back, I volunteered my time on the board of directors for Bend Spay and Neuter Program. I’m fairly certain that was my first word! My love of animals started at a very young age (especially cats!), however it took me until I was almost 30 years old to realize that I was meant to work in the veterinary medicine field. When did you know you wanted to be a vet tech? Or have you always known?Ĭats. It’s wild to think that most of the larger, established, local hospitals here in Central Oregon are owned by large vet corporations now. Moving from about 12 employees to almost 40 after 1 year! The owners work on the floor along with the staff, instead of managing the clinic from another city.Wwhich is one of the major issues behind corporate vet hospital ownership. We have tripled the staff within the first 9 months of operation. It has been quite incredible to see how BAE has grown and flourished during its first year under the ownership of Dr. Our high-quality care comes from quality employees, that are retained through improved base standards of management, benefits, and training. Our mission statement is to bring high quality, community focused, emergency, specialty, and critical care veterinary services to Central Oregon companion animals by improving veterinary employee industry working standards. This gives me the ability to reach out to members of our community to let them know the services we provide and that we are here for them and their pets. What do you do as Community Outreach Coordinator? Within the last couple of months, I have started a new role with BAE as our community outreach coordinator. This has been one of the most fulfilling and challenging goals of my life becoming a CVT! BAE was a huge support system for me as I studied for my exams, rooting me along the whole time. I also passed my Vet Tech National Examination (VTNE) in December 2021 and received my official license in January of this year- after 5 years of school, along with small and large animal externships. I have been working at Bend Animal Emergency and Specialty Center for the last year and have really enjoyed the overall learning experience and deeply appreciate the quality of medicine we provide for our patients. Giving back to my community in some form is what I love, so I was thrilled when I connected with BSNP. I quickly applied to be a volunteer, which led to a position on the board of directors. When we adopted Finn, I looked into a low-cost vaccine clinic and that’s how I learned about Bend Spay and Neuter Program. Since we moved to Bend the pack has grown by two more black cats, Smudge and Twitch and a chihuahua named Finnius Deschutes. We knew not a soul in town, didn’t have jobs lined up, it was incredibly scary, but in all reality, it was the best thing we ever did! We came to Bend with our chihuahua Oliver and black cat, Hemi. My husband and I moved to Bend the day after Christmas in 2014. So please take a moment to help us celebrate this amazing human and learn more about her life as a vet tech! Tell us a bit about yourself! Her big heart and genuine spirit leave not only the animals feeling loved, but their parents empowered and heard. Brittany’s compassion and dedication shines in all that she does, and she is making a huge impact in our community. Vet techs play such a crucial role in animal health and welfare, and it definitely takes a special kind of person to work in that environment on a daily basis. In honor of Vet Tech Week, we had the privilege of chatting with Brittany from Bend Animal Emergency and Specialty Center. Hawaii is dominated by the Democratic Party, and over the years some Republicans have grumbled that the redistricting process is biased. Those states “have a lot of work to do to improve their redistricting processes ahead of the next redistricting cycle.” Each earned an F “due to egregious partisan and racial gerrymandering,” according to the report. Rounding out the bottom tier of the redistricting report card were Alabama, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin. “Adhering to nonpartisanship: Were maps drawn to benefit communities or political parties?”. “Willingness of decision makers to draw districts based on that input: Was community feedback incorporated in the final maps?”.“Opportunities for public input: Were there ways the community could provide feedback at different points in the process?”.“Transparency: Were draft maps, meeting schedules, and other pertinent information shared with the public in a timely manner?”.Here are some of the points considered by Common Cause and company: The grading process included detailed surveys and multiple interviews. So far Blangiardi has not attracted any announced opponents of prominence, but it’s still early, yeah? The candidate filing deadline is not until June 4 and the primary is not until Aug. 31, the next campaign finance disclosure reporting deadline. A teacher was frustrated that a parent emailed asking for information that was sent out in the last newsletter. I recently saw a conversation in a teacher facebook group. Lastly, teachers are busy, but so are parents. No one likes to be CCed on an email that is clearly only about 1 or 2 people. Also, if there’s an issue with just one or two students, email them separately. Then, offer suggestions of acceptable options. For example, instead of lamenting that students have been bringing in cookies and cake and candy for snack, you can instead kindly remind parents what the school snack policy is. As much as you might want to get your annoyance across, it’s much more effective to keep things positive. Sometimes frustrating things come up in the classroom that you need to address in your newsletter. This means I never (well, rarely) forget anything important. I copy it each week, remove the old info, and add the new. I personally use a template that I created in a googledoc. This makes it easier for parents to find the information they need. I’ve also found it’s extremely helpful to use a consistent format. If you emphasize every other sentence, it stops helping. This helps those parents who skim it (eh hem- me) see what is most important. It’s great to also make it easier for parents by bolding, underlining, or highlighting important part of your newsletter. Before you start writing, think about what’s most important and focus on that. No parent wants to read a 25 paragraph newsletter. It’s great to give details, but it’s best to keep things as short and sweet as possible. Keep It Briefįirst, parents are busy, just like you. Here are five things to keep in mind when creating your class newsletter. If it’s not helpful to parents, there’s no point. A weekly newsletter should be a helpful tool for parents. Things to Remember About a Classroom Newsletterīefore we get into what to include in your parent newsletter, here are a few things to keep in mind. Here are the top things I recommend including in newsletters to parents. Or, if you just want to keep your students’ parents in the loop, you might be trying to figure out what to say. Unfortunately, I can’t share the clip-art or cute fonts with you but here is some super cute ones that you can find on TpT if you don’t just want to use Microsoft images. If you’re required to send home a weekly newsletter to update parents on your classroom, you might be wondering what to include. I am LOVING Babbling Abby’s fonts right now! The one I have in my newsletters (not going to lie I totally changed them before I posted because they are SO freaking cute!!!) are Babbling Whitney and Babbling Elizabeth (duh). It’s not going to look exactly like mine unless you have the same fonts that I do since it’s going to be opened in PowerPoint. Once you click that, click where you want to insert your text. In PowerPoint, this is what it looks like. If you are looking for an easy way to start using and sending newsletters, here is a template for you to start using! I made this as SIMPLE as I possibly could for you. Here is an example of what I will send home on a weekly basis to my parents. I tried sending my newsletter home on Friday that was for the following week. You can also include class birthdays and reminders for parents. It’s also a great way to inform parents of things that you are teaching in your classroom so they can be working on those skills at home as well. I had a principal tell me once that it’s always good to be ahead of the questions, and I feel like a newsletter is a great way to do that. Do you send a newsletter home to your parents? Hopefully, you do and if you don’t…then I think I can help you out! Newsletters are a great way to touch base with parents and let them know what is going on in your classroom and if you send it consistently on the same day, then they know to expect it and it helps alleviate your inbox from being over run. This includes a wireless charger puck, which sticks really tight on there, as well as a wallet or even the new cases. For the first time ever, I feel like iOS has a bit of an Android flair to how it looks.īasically, MagSafe on the iPhone 12 is an array of magnets on the back, which allows you to stick different accessories to the phone. There are also some small aesthetic changes, some interface elements are bolder, more accented, some small, very subtle animations here and there. Another small victory for the ordinary man! You no longer need to tuck the apps you want in a folder and hide it somewhere - you can literally delete them from the homescreen and look for them in the “Apps Gallery” (the iOS version of an app drawer). The second big feature is that iOS has a sort of an app drawer now. So, it’s still a bit of a drag to try and arrange your homescreen to make any kind of sense. Apple sure took its time with that one, we might even be at the point when widgets are no longer cool.īut before you start dreaming about arranging your widgets and icons in cool and handy shapes, let me be the bearer of bad news and tell you that iOS still doesn’t allow for empty spaces between icons. One is the support for widgets - anywhere on the homescreen. With the release of the iPhone 12, Apple also launched iOS 14, which brought about a bunch of new features and quality-of-life improvements to the ecosystem. Also, the 12 Pro Max has a slightly bigger sensor on its main camera, which helps for better Night Mode shots, and employs a new "sensor shift" stabilization method, where the sensor moves to compensate for hand-shake motions (while all other iPhone 12 models have a moving lens). And there's a bit of a difference to be observed here, too - the iPhone 12 Pro has a 2x magnification lens, whereas the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 2.5x zoom. Of course, the iPhone 12 Pro Max also has that gargantuan 6.7-inch screen, so if screen real estate is what you are really after, this model should be your top pick.īoth iPhone 12 Pro models add yet another 12 MP camera on the back - the telephoto camera. Its frame is stainless steel, as opposed to aluminum, and the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max colors are more "muted" and "serious" (aside from the gold version, which just screams "Bling!").
